Network Engineer

What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?

The Network Engineer will play a critical role in the day-to-day success of Dizzion.  This role is responsible for ensuring network reliability and availability through well-planned and implemented solutions, resolving technical issues related to our customers’ virtual network components and providing advanced technical support to both staff and customers who are working to implement our DaaS platform and related products.

Additional duties include: advocating for the security and resiliency of the network by providing security and network support for physical networking and firewall services, improving configurations, updating systems, implementing networking and VXLAN technologies, monitoring the automation of network deployment and configuration, along with the integration of infrastructure (computer/storage) configuring and monitoring network security layers, monitoring integration with other software-defined networking technologies, improving network manageability and scalability, supporting the operations and maintenance of the VMware virtual infrastructure, maintaining VMware vROps and reporting for confirmation, troubleshooting, and capacity planning.

In addition, this role will be an advocate for network resiliency and security, function as technical escalation point of contact for customer issues and enable faster issue resolution via mentoring, training and documentation of common Network troubleshooting topics while investigating and analyzing the root cause of critical incidents and develop plans to mitigate or resolve permanently.  The position will also develop clear documentation, optimize procedures, and foster strong relationships with partners, vendors and key peers across the business via healthy collaboration, knowledge sharing and mutual support.

 Additional Responsibilities include:

  • Creating and administering FortiGate Firewall Policies
  • Creating and administering site to site VPN tunnels, SSL and IPSec VPN tunnels by using FortiGate firewalls
  • Create new ways to solve existing production security issues
  • Configure and install firewalls and intrusion detection systems
  • Perform vulnerability testing, risk analyses and security assessments
  • Collaborate with colleagues on authentication, authorization, and encryption solutions
  • Evaluate new technologies and processes that enhance security capabilities
  • Administer changes in software, hardware, facilities, telecommunications, and customer needs
  • Identify and facilitate the improvement activities for improving the services
  • Daily Status reports, Report metrics, dashboards, and other operational measures to management on a regular basis
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 What Other Skills Give Me an Advantage?

  • 10+ years’ networking experience with network certifications from Cisco, Fortinet and/or VMware
  • Experience with Cisco ASA / Firepower
  • Extensive experience with Fortinet including DDoS, IPs, VPN, analysis, monitoring, HA configuration
  • Knowledge of Software Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN)
  • Strong experience managing VMware NSX-V
  • Extensive monitoring knowledge for bandwidth, link status, switch health status, and routine maintenance activities
  • Eligibility to obtain and hold an active U.S. Government Clearance
  • Secret Clearance Preferred

 Advanced switching knowledge of:

  • Complete OSI model, excellence in layer 1-3
  • Cisco layer 2 switching for top of rack (2560-3750, nexus)
  • Cisco Nexus 9k and VPC
  • Mellanox Ethernet switching (Ethernet switching, MLAG, ISL, Mesh networking, failover)
  • Leaf/edge, Spine, edge, leaf design (general design applicable to overall network design)
  • STP/RSTP/MSTP (all varieties of spanning tree)
  • LACP/QOS and traffic prioritization.
  • Extensive monitoring knowledge for switch health and capacity evaluation

What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

The hiring manager for this role is Kwesi Ames, Senior Vice President of Operations.  Kwesi leads the Operations department with functional responsibility that includes technical operations, platform engineering and customer support.  He brings 22 years of experience in information technology and operations.  Ames previously served as vice president of site reliability engineering at Salesforce (~10 years).

Compensation

  • $115,000 -$130,000 annually (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, and alignment of market data.)
  • Quarterly and annual bonus program
